The Straw that Broke the Camel's Back
OK. So I've been waffling for months trying to decide which next-gen console system I want to buy first. I know that eventually I want to have a Wii, but they're still hard to find. In the mean time, I've been Proing and Coning the X-Box 360 and the PS3. Just when I thought I'd go with the PS3, I find that Rockstar will only be releasing follow on content for GTA 4 on the 360. My next flop occured when Sony discounted the 60 gig PS3. I was sorely tempted... But now, alas, the nail in the coffin for me owning a PS3. October 23rd will see the release of Ace Combat 6 on the 360. For those of you who have not visited the official website, you are denying yourself a treat! In addition to game trailers showcasing some of the most photo-realistic air combat to date, there are wallpapers to download and alot of teasing. It appears there will be a running leaderboard so we'll all know who the best of the best is. You can also sign yourself up for the big 2V2 tournament in the works including a military vs civilian contest. There is even a game where you can test your skill at determining the origin of some aircraft photos. Are they real or are they Ace Combat stills? I only missed one, due I'm sure to pure luck. (Actually, if you know what to look at, it is not hard to tell the real from theCGI.) The feature that had me stand and cheer? There is a gallery of aircraft from the game including the F-14D Super Tomcat. Although recently retired from active duty due to operating costs, it is still a highly relevant aircraft. Flying it in the game will be the closest old Sea Dogs like me will get to it. (via A/C 6)
