Microsoft tries to empty the warehouse...
...of the left over XP discs? Actually, I'm heartened by the fact that Gates and Co. have opted to extend the release of Win XP for an additional 6 months. By allowing manufacturers to keep selling new systems with XP onboard, they are readily admitting that not everyone is ready to switch to Vista. I myself almost panicked and ended up purchasing my new laptop sooner than planned for fear that I would have to get one with Vista instead of the system I've honed over the last 5 years. As a loooong time gamer, I still have lots of games that I play from days gone by. Many, including the original Leisure Suit Larry and a (still) fully functioning Multi-Arcade Machine Emulator were designed around DOS and Win 3.1. I still enjoy playing these games often and shudder at the thought of spending the next six months working out the kinks of a new system to suit my needs. Microsoft usually holds on to an old O/S for two years after the release of a new one. Originally, Microsoft had shortened that to one year with Vista, but has now stretched it to a year and a half. My guess is that sales of Vista enabled systems has slowed considerably against a request for systems still carrying XP. Either that or M/S found a warehouse full of XP discs we forgot about. Personally, I'll be using XP long after Windows support has ended.
