According to their website, after more than five years in operation, RuneScape has surpassed the million member milestone. Jagex started RuneScape as a free Java based MMO and then switched to a pay-per-month game, at about $5/month.

I have to admit that I have never played RuneScape. Although I have thought about it several times since they started in 2001, I never signed up for an account. After reading about this press release on their newspage, it did leave me slightly interested. RuneScape is a "fun" RPG that doesn't take itself too seriously. With players all over the world, and now with over a million of them, it might be time to sign up.
